Brussels (B) | Saint Anthony of Padua

Between 1868 and 1871 the community of Frères Mineurs Conventuels commissioned the construction of a new church in gothic style dedicated to Saint-Antoine from Padua. Barely a year later was the construction of a new organ already being discussed. After receiving various proponents the project was either down to Merklin or François-Bernard Loret: the latter won the contract.

This instrument was completed in 1874 and comprised 24 stops over Great, Swell and Pedal divisions. The De Lil Company from Brussels made minor modifications to the specification before replacing the mechanical stop action by a pneumatic system in 1930. It is probable that the horizontal reservoir and the Barker machine date both from about the same period.

The restoration project aims at the reconstitution of the original specification while retaining the present technical concept in both the stop action and the winding system
